Well, another week has bit the dust! Yesterday afternoon 20 of us, along with 3 of the professors, went on a private bus to the hot springs. It was about a 2 hour ride outside of Quito. The country was very pretty, but not as pretty as the drive to Banos because the vegetation was not as green. There is more rain near Banos. This is the first time I have ever been in hot springs. The actual spa was beautiful. Unfortunately, it was a cloudy sky and we got a little rain. However, it did make the mountains beautiful in a very eery way. They were covered with clouds and mist.
The setting was among the mountains with about 6 different hot springs pools of different temperatures. It was a blast! We got back about 9:00 last night, which was kind of scary because I had to get a taxi back, and there were not that many people on the streets. I managed to get a taxi driver, who was one of the indiginous people, who did not understand my Spanish very well. (It could not have been my pronunciation, could it?)! Anyhow, I managed to get home with $1.50 taxi fare. The cost of the taxis makes up for any problems in communication.
Tomorrow at 7:00 four of us are going on a 2 day, 1 night trip, including Cotopaxi Nat´l Park (highest active volcano 19,342 ft in the world), where we will hopefully walk to the glaciers and refuge. We then go to Riobamba where we will do some more walking and stay for the night! Sunday, we will take the famouns train to Alausi, town located in the west slope of the Andes...then on to adventure on the roof of the train to the famous Devil´s nose. Devil´s nose was named because of its famouns zigzags in the hills and a mountain that looks like a nose. We are suppose to return to Quito around 4:00 on Sunday. Well, must run....had test today...did well...wish I could speak Spanish better, but hopefully as time moves on! Love to you all. Have a great weekend and hope all is well! XOO
