Otavallo & Other Sites 10-5 to 10-6

Will keep this short since the following one is so long...We got home from Amazon on Friday and got up early Sat morning to drive to Otavallo for the famous market of indigenous goods. All goods are handmade and woven. We were accompanied by my professor´s 21 year old son, Paul, and his friend. They gave us a personal tour which lasted two days. Everything I see is different and amazing. I am like a kid in a candy shop!

On the way to Otavalla, we stopped at a beautiful church, with the most breathtaking stained glass windows and gold leaf alter. We all made a wish, lit a candle, and placed it in the proper area. It was very touching.

We then stopped at the point of the equator and straddled the line. It was quite exciting. On to Otavallo...Otavallo is the most prosperous area outside of Quito. All of the indigenous handiworks are sold there. Many of the people still wear the clothes like their ancestors wore. We very much enjoyed the area. While we were there, Paul had arranged for two of my friends from school to meet us there. It was wonderful seeing them. Sandy will be coming to Cuzco the beginning of November so I will also see her there.

On to a gorgeous hotel for the night...an old, very large hacienda, which has been made into a hotel. It had stables, guest houses, gardens, etc. ....next day we drove to Iberra, which did not have much except an excellent Ecuadorian lunch! Then it was home....we got home about 3:00PM..

Moday...went to school to see friends...catch up on reading...went with Chip and friend to look around town...friend took us to his house....Chip rode on his 4-wheel ATV(?)..lots of fun. Motorcycles, etc. are the friend´s hobbies...very nice house and family.

Well, that´s all...will blog later in the week. Chip left...I leave at 9:00PM tonight for Lima, then on to Cuzco the next day. Love to all of you...
