Buenos Aires Monday

Another week has arrived and I had a great weekend. Friday I went to the dinner-tango show, which was just beautiful. I always knew the tango was a very sexy dance, but did not know it could also be a playful dance. The show was an hour long and was representative of all the tango dances. Mark and I sat with two other young women from Mexico, which made the evening very nice. The dinner was very good, albeit a regular American type dinner..I had pasta and the other three people had a steak. The steaks are very tough here, so I don´t order them any more. I got home around 12:00P. Mark and I took the train to Tigre and to see the Delta (about a 45 min train ride) on Sat. We spent all day there and enjoyed it very much. It is a smaller town, with a river running through it. The people who live on the delta have no means of transportation except the ferry, which we took to see it. We basically took the ferry to the delta and then walked on a very narrow path to see some of the houses and nature. It was a nice, tranquil day. I got home about 8:00P and was glad to watch a movie (in English on TV), do some knitting and get some sleep. Sunday morning I awoke to a temperature of about 40 degrees and it was raining. I went out to the local Starbucks for some coffee and met some students from California. I talked with the Spanish teacher of the group a long time. She lives in Laguna Beach. We exchanged emails and really enjoyed exchanging travel info and talking. She recently became a divorced woman with no children and loves to travel. She is now thinking about teaching English as a Second Language, so I gave her some info. Small world....her father is an accountant in Laguna ( I know who he is...).

Just some observations that I thought might be of interest..

-restaurants always serve a 2 oz jigger of carbonated water and a couple of small cookies with an order of tea or coffee
-in Tigre, the restaurant served a hotdog with mayo on it and a line of crunchy fried potato sticks on the top (looked very good...will try it at home)
- I had a waffle on a stick with banana and chocolate inside of it. The outside top was dipped in chocolate and had peanuts sprinkled on it...um...good!
-napkins served with coffee or tea are only about 2 1-2 " square
-most Argentinians do not eat eggs for breakfast...only toast and coffee
-McDonald´s has a McCafe here, which serves a nice serving of cappachino, etc., large slice of cake, and a 2 oz jigger of water with biscuits for $4.00. McCafe sells all types of pastries with coffee, tea type drinks...
- Argentinians eat alot of pastries at all hours of the day. There are loads of pastry shops lining the streets. People drink cafe and tea all day long and eat pastries. They are not fat, which is surprising.
- I had ham and eggs at a restaurant. The ham had the consistency of a pate...ugh!Some places call it sweet ham.

Well, must run. I feel like I am getting a return of that horrible cold around my trachea, which I got in Barcelona. I am praying it is not true, as it is so terrible and lasts so long! The weather has changed so much from hot to cold and I have been in the rain...oh well. That´s life! Luv u all...Hope all is well...take care...
